Marine Safety Instructor – Offshore Training

About the role

The Offshore Safety & Survival Centre (OSSC) at the Marine Institute is seeking a full‑time Instructor to deliver theoretical and practical marine, offshore and industrial emergency response training. The role is based at the Foxtrap campus with occasional travel to other sites in Newfoundland and Labrador and the northern territories.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise participants and ensure safety compliance during all training activities.
• Deliver classroom instruction on firefighting, marine survival and rescue‑craft operations.
• Conduct and oversee live‑fire exercises, open‑water survival drills and rescue operations in both controlled and natural environments.
• Develop, review and update training courses to align with current standards and best practices.
• Perform administrative duties related to course delivery, documentation and reporting.
• Support additional instructional and operational tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum four years experience in a marine or offshore environment.
• Three‑year diploma or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Valid Transport Canada Marine medical certificate.
• Transport Canada Certificate of Competency – at least Watchkeeping Mate or Second Class Engineer.
• Ability to work safely in and around water.
• Preference for advanced education, teaching experience, offshore‑helicopter operations, major emergency management or related qualifications.
