Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

The Manufacturing Engineer will evaluate product designs and manufacturing processes to drive cost reduction while maintaining high quality and safety standards. Working closely with multiple departments, the role provides technical support and recommendations for tools, equipment, and methods that optimise production efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and plan projects to modify methods, machinery, and layout to simplify production, cut costs and improve product design.
• Analyse current manufacturing sequences using Value Stream Mapping and propose improvements.
• Create and maintain procedural documentation, work instructions, time standards and bills of materials in required languages.
• Troubleshoot production and process issues, addressing documentation, tolerances and design challenges.
• Conduct market research and benchmark industry technologies to support continuous improvement.
• Develop quality measurement methods, monitor labour efficiency and minimise material waste.
• Collaborate with maintenance to establish preventive maintenance programmes for equipment and fixtures.
• Drive cost‑reduction initiatives, track project progress and identify waste.
• Work with vendors on specifications, design and commissioning of new equipment.
• Support the design team during prototyping and new product introductions, ensuring cost‑effective production.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering; P.Eng. designation preferred.
• Minimum five years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high‑volume, high‑mix environment (wood furniture or cabinetry experience a plus).
• Proven project‑management and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.
• Experience with time‑standard development, process balancing, budgeting and equipment selection.
