Environmental Health & Safety Manager

About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead all EHS programs for a new greenfield lithium‑battery separator manufacturing facility in Port Colborne, Ontario. Reporting to the Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Director, the role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on implementation to build a Zero Harm safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve the EHS Management System, aligning with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Responsible Care standards.
• Lead environmental compliance activities, including emissions, wastewater, waste management, hazardous material handling, and reporting to MECP, OHSA/MLITSD, ECCC and CCOHS.
• Conduct incident investigations, hazard and risk assessments, and pre‑startup safety reviews for new equipment.
• Provide EHS training, coaching, and leadership to employees, supervisors, contractors, and joint health & safety committees.
• Support facility design and process development through EHS risk evaluations and recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environment or a related field.
• Minimum 7 + years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment and 3 + years of leadership experience.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, drive continuous improvement and interact with regulatory agencies.
