Quality Management System Specialist

About the role

The Quality Management System (QMS) Specialist will join the start‑up team for Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada’s new plant in Port Colborne. This full‑time, on‑site role focuses on establishing, certifying, and continuously improving the QMS, with a primary goal of achieving IATF 16949 certification.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain QMS structures, workflows, templates, and governance processes.
• Lead IATF 16949 certification readiness, aligning with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and customer‑specific requirements.
• Manage document control, ensuring version control for policies, procedures, work instructions, SOPs, forms, and records.
• Coordinate gap assessments, action plans, internal readiness reviews, and audit preparation.
• Conduct internal and external audits, track non‑conformances, and drive root‑cause analysis.
• Provide QMS training, develop training materials, and promote quality awareness across the organization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 5 + years experience in quality assurance or quality systems within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience leading IATF 16949 certification readiness and managing external/customer audits.
• Project‑management experience in quality system implementation or manufacturing start‑up.
• Ability to influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
• Experience using quality‑management software platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Project‑management skills, including planning, risk tracking, and milestone management.
