Manager, Applications Engineering

About the role

Avidbots is looking for a passionate, self‑driven Manager, Applications Engineering to lead its Applications Engineering team. You will bridge software development and real‑world field applications, ensuring production software is optimally applied, sustained, and continuously improved across a global fleet of autonomous cleaning robots.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, build, and grow a team of Applications Engineers through technical direction, coaching, hiring, and performance management.
• Own the triage process and maintain backlog quality for robot software/system issues reported from the field and production.
• Collaborate with Engineering to analyze robot field usage and performance metrics, supporting issue investigation and product improvement.
• Partner with Product, Technical Services, Customer Success, and Production to resolve field and production issues promptly.
• Conduct alpha and beta trials of new features across customer sites and verticals.
• Drive continuous improvement by leveraging AI tools, automating workflows, and leading root‑cause analysis.
• Communicate critical field issues to cross‑functional stakeholders and deliver internal training on robot systems applications.

Required profile

• BSc or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of industry experience in Applications Engineering, Technical Support, or related fields.
• 3+ years of people‑leadership experience managing engineering or QA teams.
• Strong background in troubleshooting and resolving complex, production‑scale application issues.
• Proven ability to prioritize decisions in high‑stakes, time‑sensitive situations with minimal oversight.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience with robotics or autonomous systems, or a strong interest in the field.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Linux‑based operating systems.
• Programming in C++, Python, and Bash scripting.
• Incident and issue management using Jira or similar ticketing systems.
• Collaboration tools such as Confluence and Google Suite.
• Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS).
