Legal Counsel

About the role

Enbridge is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive regulatory, litigation, and commercial support to its Gas Distribution & Storage (GDS) business unit. The role focuses on managing dispute and litigation matters while advising internal clients on legal risks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dispute and litigation support, collaborating with internal teams and external counsel.
• Manage and litigate matters such as breach of contract, personal injury, property damage, employment, and human rights issues.
• Advise on pre‑litigation disputes and develop risk‑mitigation strategies.
• Draft pleadings, conduct discovery examinations, participate in mediations, and negotiate settlements.
• Support regulatory compliance with the Ontario Energy Board, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, and other bodies.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise on operational impacts.
• Prepare correspondence, opinions, presentations, and educational seminars on litigation and regulatory matters.
• Communicate effectively with employees, regulators, industry stakeholders, municipalities, and government agencies.

Required profile

• Law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• 2‑3 years of hands‑on litigation experience in Ontario or a comparable common‑law jurisdiction.
• Strong critical‑thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to simplify complex legal concepts.
• Capacity to manage a high‑volume workload and deliver timely advice under tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal partners, regulators, and external counsel.
