About the role

CreateTO is a City of Toronto agency focused on shaping livable, sustainable and inclusive communities through strategic real estate initiatives. We are seeking an experienced lawyer who can align legal advice with business objectives, manage risk, and support senior leaders across a large public‑sector real estate portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead drafting and negotiation of complex real estate and leasing transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, licences, easements and development agreements.
• Provide strategic legal advice throughout the development lifecycle—from feasibility and approvals to financing, construction, delivery and long‑term operations.
• Advise on construction and capital project agreements, sustainability initiatives, procurement, insurance, change orders, claims and related litigation.
• Conduct due diligence for real estate and commercial leasing deals, including title and corporate searches.
• Navigate legal and regulatory challenges to achieve CreateTO’s business and policy objectives.
• Supervise external counsel on litigation, arbitrations, mediations and expropriation matters.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in real estate, commercial leasing, development and construction law.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑divisional teams and manage complex legal issues.
• Strong attention to detail with superior legal drafting skills.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication abilities.
