Health & Benefits Consultant

About the role

Mercer is looking for a Health & Benefits Consultant to join its H&B Consulting team, based in Montreal, Quebec City or Ottawa. The role leads consulting engagements with 500+ life employers on their medical, dental, life and disability benefit plans and programs, negotiates with benefits carriers and vendors to secure coverage, and may contribute to business development for the Montreal market. It is a hybrid role with at least three days a week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or co-lead complex client engagements, managing service delivery, financial evaluations, plan design, renewals, business placement, benchmarking and other studies
• Develop benefits design and renewal strategies and tools to solve complex client issues
• Communicate Mercer's position on the latest industry trends to clients
• Be accountable for revenue and profitability of client accounts and projects
• Generate sales by expanding revenues from existing clients and prospecting new ones
• Set strategic direction that creates demand for new products and services
• Review actuarial valuation of post-employment retirement and other benefits obligations and expenses, using Canadian, U.S. and/or international accounting standards and Mercer standards (optional)

Required profile

• BA/BS degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance or a related field
• Previous experience with large consulting firms handling major accounts
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or AMF license (or the process of obtaining it)
• At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing solutions to complex health care benefits challenges
• Fluency in English and French, as the role involves bilingual employees and clients across Canada
