General Physiatrist – Rehabilitation Medicine

About the role

The Island Health Division of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a General Physiatrist to join a team of six physicians providing consultative rehabilitation services at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and surrounding communities. The role focuses on the rehabilitation of patients with neurological conditions, post‑traumatic injuries, and amputations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive physiatry consultations for in‑patient, slow‑stream, and transitional rehabilitation units.
• Manage outpatient rehabilitation cases involving neurological disease, trauma, and limb loss.
• Collaborate with a full spectrum of medical, surgical, and psychiatric specialists on‑site.
• Utilise diagnostic imaging services (X‑ray, CT, MRI, sonography, nuclear medicine) to guide patient care.
• Deliver care without night call responsibilities.

Required profile

• Medical degree and board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
• Experience or strong interest in neurological, post‑traumatic, and amputation rehabilitation.
• Ability to work in a hospital‑based environment and an outpatient clinic.
• Team‑oriented mindset to collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists.
