Full-Stack Software Engineer

About the role

Manulife, an international financial services provider, is hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer in Waterloo, Ontario. The role is an existing vacancy and is offered in a hybrid arrangement. The engineer designs, develops, tests and maintains business applications across the full software development lifecycle, working with both front-end and back-end components.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deliver, maintain and improve business applications as part of a team.
• Design end-user interfaces, databases, APIs and server-side logic.
• Apply disciplined coding practices, design patterns, automation and semantic versioning, using development frameworks and third-party libraries.
• Write detailed system design specifications, prototypes and documentation (deployment, maintenance, support, business needs).
• Build automated test harnesses, run tests and analysis, and fix bugs.
• Take part in technical spikes, peer code reviews and agile/DevOps practices.

Required profile

• 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience.
• Experience designing reusable, efficient React components with Redux and server-side rendering, and strong CSS for scalable, mobile-responsive interfaces.
• Experience building digital products with accessibility in mind, including WCAG 2.1 compliance and accessibility testing.
• Understanding of agile, DevOps, CI/CD and testing-first development.
• Good verbal and written communication and experience working with clients and collaborators.

Required skills

• React, Node.js, Express, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 and front-end testing.
• Redux and React server-side rendering.
• Preferred: AEM, AKS or similar cloud platforms, PaaS and microservices, Jenkins/Team City, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, Fortify and WebInspect.
