Data Centre Student Intern (Winter 2027) - Indigenous Students

About the role

Sun Life is hiring a Data Centre Intern for Winter 2027, based at its Waterloo King office. The role supports the Data Centre Operations Cable Management and Data Centre Services technicians in the final steps of the IT hardware life cycle. It is open to eligible Indigenous students (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) graduating in August 2027 or later; the position requires Reliability Status Clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in the IT hardware life-cycle management process, including collecting and documenting hardware per IT owner input, and coordinating vendor pickups and escorts
• Assist in the physical installation of IT equipment in data centre cabinets and organize hardware for installation or disposition
• Help collect and punch hard drives and coordinate building security for equipment pickup and drop-off
• Contribute to data validation in the DCIM tool and assist in onboarding UPS devices to the Eaton IT Performance Management tool
• Track tasks against target timelines, maintain detailed documentation and follow data centre security and access protocols

Required profile

• Indigenous student (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with a high school diploma or Grade 12 equivalent
• Graduation in August 2027 or later
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and comfort with data centre environments
• Reliability Status Clearance is required to start

Required skills

• Knowledge of IT hardware terms and platforms
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Detail orientation, strong time management and excellent communication skills
