Finance Director

About the role

The Keepers of the Circle is seeking a Finance Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operations for our Indigenous‑led, not‑for‑profit organization. The role ensures financial integrity, sustainability and compliance while supporting the mission of community well‑being and cultural self‑determination.

Key responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and financial reporting, delivering strategic insights to senior leadership and the Board.
• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting, payroll, fund accounting and internal controls, ensuring compliance with Indigenous Services Canada, provincial ministries and federal funders.
• Manage annual audit processes, GAAP/ASNPO compliance and preparation of accurate financial statements and funder reports.
• Supervise grant and restricted‑fund reporting, support program teams with budget development and financial tracking.
• Mentor and develop finance staff, fostering high performance and continuous improvement.
• Maintain financial systems in QuickBooks Online, oversee contracts, procurement and risk‑management frameworks.
• Collaborate with Indigenous partners, advisory councils and community stakeholders to embed culturally grounded financial practices.

Required profile

• CPA designation (or in progress) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
• Minimum five years of progressive financial management experience, including senior leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous organizations or not‑for‑profit entities is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to provide strategic financial guidance, manage complex funding streams and ensure regulatory compliance.
