Executive Director, Financial Services

About the role

The Executive Director, Financial Services leads the strategic development, implementation and oversight of core financial and business services across the university. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Finance and Operations, this senior leader ensures that accounts payable, receivable, payroll, research accounting, procurement and financial reporting meet the needs of the university community while safeguarding assets and complying with legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a department‑wide strategic plan for all Financial Services units aligned with institutional goals.
• Oversee production of financial statements for the university and its consolidated entities, including endowments and pensions.
• Lead policy development, process improvement and change management to deliver client‑focused services.
• Modernise financial and administrative systems, policies and supporting technology.
• Design and deliver training programs to enable university staff to complete core business functions efficiently.
• Provide strategic counsel and support to the AVPFO on a range of financial initiatives.
• Participate in university committees, projects and cross‑functional initiatives.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in financial services, preferably within a large, complex organization.
• Proven ability to lead strategic planning and drive organisational change.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance and risk management.
• Excellent stakeholder management and collaborative leadership skills.
