Estimator - Tapered Insulation (Commercial/Residential Roofing)

About the role

Roofmart, Canada's national distributor for exterior building supply in roofing, siding, metal and building envelope, is hiring an Estimator for its Commercial/Residential Roofing Division (tapered insulation) in Brampton. The role reports to the Supervisor, Estimating and Insulation Fabrication, and involves preparing all parts of an estimate, working independently and as part of a team with occasional travel.

Key responsibilities

• Gather plans, specs and dimensions from sales and management and forward them to the estimating team
• Perform take-offs on site, at the client's office, in the Construction Association's virtual drawings room or through other contacts
• Generate estimates for commercial and residential roofing and exterior cladding projects, applying provincial building codes and municipal regulations
• Answer technical questions from architects, consultants and contractors and interpret architectural plans and specifications
• Manage the material costing database, document lead times and update inventory notices so delivery dates are met
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and project forecasts
• Maintain relationships with contractors and clients, assist sales with negotiations and competitor pricing, and develop new clients
• Approve pricing, contracts and tender quote modifications, and develop standardized estimating and tendering procedures

Required profile

• Graduate from a recognized engineering, architectural or construction management program (technician or technologist) is an asset
• At least 3 years' experience in the construction field in a similar or related position is preferred
• Previous experience estimating projects is preferred
• Knowledge of sloped/tapered roof insulation and basic roofing industry knowledge
• Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and exceptional oral and written communication skills

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• CAD programs; experience with tapered roofing software, Salesforce and other estimating software is an asset
