Engineering Technologist – Rail Cars & Shops

About the role

The Toronto Transit Commission is seeking an Engineering Technologist to join its Rail Cars & Shops department. Working on‑site at the Greenwood Shop, you will support the reliability and safety of the TTC’s rail fleet through technical problem solving and maintenance coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, correct and eliminate non‑routine complex failures on rail‑car systems and related equipment.
• Investigate and resolve unusual, difficult or recurring problems, updating work methods, job plans and procedures as needed.
• Coordinate repairs, ensure stabilization of failures, and verify compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
• Plan, perform and oversee preventative maintenance checks and services according to written procedures and best practices.
• Conduct equipment, system and structural inspections; develop or modify test procedures under direction.
• Provide technical guidance on equipment selection, purchase, service requirements, specialized training, and safety issues.
• Prepare written reports, test reports, modification instructions and diagnostic documentation.

Required profile

• Engineering Technologist (or equivalent) with experience in rail‑car or mechanical systems.
• Ability to work on‑site full‑time (40 hours/week) on a day shift, with weekends off.
• Strong analytical skills to identify root causes of equipment failures.
• Effective communication for preparing technical reports and providing guidance to staff.
