Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of more than 20 doctors in the oceanfront community of Nanaimo, BC. You will work in a new, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest ED on Vancouver Island and a referral centre for the central island catchment area.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality clinical care to an annual census of ~70,000 patients.
• Lead emergency and trauma teams, coordinating with major specialty services.
• Participate in administrative, educational, and research activities as desired.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of department protocols and patient safety.

Required profile

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine and eligibility to practice in British Columbia.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a high‑volume, multidisciplinary environment.
• Interest in clinical excellence, teaching, and/or research.
• Previous experience in a similar department is encouraged.
