Director of Historic Preservation (Graduate Program)

About the role

Clemson University’s College of Architecture, Art and Construction seeks a tenured Associate or Full Professor to serve as the Director of its Charleston‑based Graduate Program in Historic Preservation. The position is a joint appointment between the Richard A. McMahan School of Architecture and the Nieri Department of Construction and Real Estate Development, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Graduate Program in Historic Preservation.
• Teach graduate courses, supervise research, and mentor students.
• Recruit high‑caliber students and develop curriculum aligned with professional standards.
• Manage program budget, personnel, and external funding opportunities.
• Foster community engagement, service‑learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in historic preservation, architecture, or a closely related field; Ph.D. preferred.
• Distinguished record of national or international leadership in historic preservation, demonstrated through professional projects and scholarly publications.
• Proven teaching excellence and ability to attract top graduate talent.
• Professional licensure and experience in community‑oriented initiatives are highly desirable.
• Experience in program and team leadership, budget oversight, and securing external grants.
