Crime Prevention & Community Engagement Specialist

About the role

Toronto Metropolitan University is seeking a Crime Prevention and Community Engagement Specialist to help create a safe, welcoming campus environment. The role focuses on designing and delivering outreach initiatives, workshops and awareness campaigns that empower students, staff and visitors to identify risks and take proactive safety measures.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement community‑based crime prevention programs across the Toronto and Brampton campuses.
• Facilitate workshops, training sessions and public awareness campaigns on personal safety, risk identification and vulnerability reduction.
• Collaborate with equity‑deserving groups, student associations and campus partners to build trust and inclusive safety practices.
• Gather and analyse feedback to continuously improve outreach strategies and measure impact.
• Support the university’s broader safety and security objectives by contributing to policy development and emergency preparedness.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, with lived experience or extensive work with equity‑deserving communities.
• Passion for community safety and experience in designing educational or outreach programs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse campus audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of crime prevention principles and community engagement techniques.
• Experience delivering workshops, training or public awareness initiatives.
• Familiarity with campus environments and student services.
