Controller – Financial Management Lead

About the role

The client is looking for an experienced Controller to lead the financial management function for their manufacturing operations in Exeter, Ontario. The role focuses on accurate reporting, strengthening controls and providing actionable financial insight to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Direct daily accounting activities, supervise the finance team and ensure complete, accurate and up‑to‑date financial records.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and coordinate month‑end and year‑end close, including intercompany accounting.
• Establish, monitor and improve internal control practices to mitigate risk and protect company assets.
• Partner with senior leadership to develop budgets and forecasts, analyse results against plans and explain key variances.
• Evaluate existing accounting workflows, identify efficiency opportunities and implement process improvements.
• Maintain compliance with accounting standards, tax obligations and regulatory requirements.
• Coach, guide and train accounting staff to develop capability and ensure consistent performance.
• Deliver financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership for planning and operational decisions.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of progressive finance and accounting experience with leadership responsibility.
• CPA designation.
• Proven success in a senior finance role within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost control and accounting best practices.
• Ability to interpret financial data, identify trends and recommend practical actions.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting financial information to both financial and non‑financial audiences.
• High level of accuracy, organization and attention to detail.
