Controller – Cloud Accounting & Financial Operations

About the role

Tandem Consulting is seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations for a portfolio of small‑to‑medium business and non‑profit clients. This full‑time, exclusive position offers autonomy, high standards of accuracy, and the support of a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage multiple client files simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines.
• Perform weekly, bi‑weekly and monthly bookkeeping with proactive client communication.
• Complete full‑cycle bookkeeping, including bank reconciliations, inventory adjustments, and deferred/prepaid schedules.
• Prepare cash‑flow and inventory forecasts and present insights to stakeholders.
• Conduct monthly variance analysis, ad‑hoc reporting, and provide operational insights.
• Process payables and payroll using tools such as Plooto and Float.
• Build and maintain annual client budgets and report monthly variances.
• Answer technical client questions and support senior management.
• Prepare and file HST, PST, EHT, and WSIB returns.
• Assemble year‑end packages and assist external auditors.
• Identify and implement AI‑driven workflow improvements and document SOPs.

Required profile

• 8+ years of full‑cycle bookkeeping experience with complex client portfolios.
• Background in a cloud‑based accounting practice.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll and sales‑tax compliance.
• Experience serving e‑commerce clients.
