About the role
The City of Fort Saskatchewan is looking for a Contracts & Legal Support Coordinator to assist Administration and Council in guiding municipal decisions and activities. This permanent, full‑time position reports to the Director of Legislative Services and plays a key role in contract administration and legal support.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and administer a centralized contract management system, including a comprehensive database, renewal tracking, and compliance procedures.
- Draft, review, interpret, and coordinate the execution of contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and corporate policies.
- Coordinate internal and external contract review processes, track feedback, and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Assist in identifying potential risks to contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Support the delivery of legal services for the City, including engagement of external legal counsel.
- Conduct preliminary legal research and analysis on matters affecting the City, reviewing legal documents, contracts, bylaws, and policies.
- Establish, maintain, and improve legal frameworks, processes, guidelines, and a centralized legal opinion library.
- Assist in drafting bylaws, directives, and related legal documents under the direction of legal counsel.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and briefing materials for City Council and senior management.
Required profile
- Minimum 2‑year post‑secondary diploma in Paralegal Studies (or related municipal government, law, or related field).
- National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, economics or social sciences (asset).
- Certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy and a Supervision Citation or Certificate (asset).
- Ability to obtain a Commissioner for Oaths designation or become a member of the Alberta Association of Professional Paralegals.
- At least three (3) years of experience in municipal government, law, or a related field.
