Construction Superintendent

About the role

The Superintendent leads and coordinates subcontractors and labourers on commercial and institutional construction sites. This senior field position ensures daily site operations are performed safely, on schedule, and in line with company objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safety leadership through the Bird Safety Program and monitor safety performance of staff and subcontractors.
• Maintain effective relationships with field staff and subcontractors to promote morale and teamwork.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate site team members, delivering regular feedback and performance reviews.
• Assist in developing and refining the project schedule.
• Administer contracts, purchase orders, site instructions, and change notices.
• Identify design deficiencies, schedule interruptions, and other project issues; collaborate with the Project Manager to resolve them.
• Monitor subcontractor performance for safety, scope, quality, and workmanship.
• Ensure sufficient manpower to meet safety, schedule, and quality goals.
• Maintain daily paperwork, including field reports, safety inspections, and schedule updates.

Required profile

• Progressive experience as a Superintendent in commercial or institutional construction, preferably with P3 or Design‑Build projects.
• Trade background in carpentry or Gold Seal Certification is an asset.
• Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and team‑development abilities.
• Proven competence in safety, workforce management, cost control, quality, and administration.
• Ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Experience using MS Project.
