Collections Assistant – Special Projects

About the role

Collections Assistant – Special Projects is a temporary, full‑time position within the Collections Care, Management and Access Department at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA), University of British Columbia. Working under the Conservator, the assistant will support a collections storage upgrade project focused on MOA’s visible storage gallery.

Key responsibilities

• Deinstall collections from exhibit cases, maintaining accurate records of object placement, case hardware, labels and mounts.
• Track objects consistently across MOA collection spaces and update the project database.
• Apply established cleaning procedures to various material types and document actions with condition reports and photography.
• Clean exhibit casework, fabricate handling supports, and prepare samples for analysis as required.
• Maintain organized workspaces, restock supplies, manage laboratory laundry, and report inventory needs.
• Liaise with collections and conservation staff to coordinate case deinstallation and ensure safe handling.

Required profile

• High school graduation with at least two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Required skills

• Object tracking and condition documentation, including activity photography.
• Data entry in a collections management system.
• Hand skills for constructing housing systems for museum collections.
• Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to health‑and‑safety guidelines.
