Civil Construction Estimator – Port Alberni

About the role

Knappett is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator for its Port Alberni office. The role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders for civil infrastructure projects. Successful candidates will work closely with project teams to support bid preparation and post‑award execution.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for earth works, site works, road construction, and underground utilities.
• Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions to develop quantity take‑offs and pricing strategies.
• Utilize estimating software such as MS Excel and HeavyBid to produce detailed proposals.
• Identify bidding opportunities in both public and private sectors.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and other estimators to refine estimates and review tenders.
• Participate in pre‑construction planning, bid reviews, and post‑award project kick‑offs.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of cumulative experience in civil construction estimating.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and site conditions.
• Effective organization and multitasking abilities within a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with HeavyBid estimating software.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with MS Project.
