Chief Commercial Officer

About the role

The Chief Commercial Officer will be the commercial voice of the BCHL, leading partnership development, media strategy, and external relationships to drive long‑term growth and financial sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, cultivate, and manage league sponsorships and partnerships throughout their lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary external commercial relationship holder, ensuring partnerships align with the BCHL brand and mission.
• Build and maintain relationships with adjacent leagues, governing bodies, and hockey ecosystem organizations.
• Develop and execute media and streaming strategies focused on audience growth and brand integrity.
• Guide content and distribution strategy across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms.
• Explore non‑traditional funding sources, including grants and government partnerships.
• Contribute to the Strategic Plan, especially commercial sustainability, expansion, events, and media rights.
• Advise the Chairman and Commissioner on commercial implications of key decisions.
• Oversee commercial activities, including deal structuring, pricing, and forecasting.
• Ensure commercial decisions support long‑term financial health for the league and its member clubs.
• Provide expertise to member clubs to help them grow their own commercial opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven track record of building commercial partnerships and delivering revenue growth in sport, entertainment, media, or a closely related field.
• Senior‑level experience with comfort advising leadership, presenting to boards, and acting as an external face of an organization.
• Strong understanding of the sports media and streaming landscape and its commercial impact.
• Relationship‑first mindset with a focus on long‑term partnership value.
• Experience in the hockey ecosystem, ideally with existing relationships across junior, college, and professional leagues.
• Sound commercial judgment, capable of structuring deals and communicating financial implications clearly.
