Cable Ferry Operator

About the role

The Manitoba Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a seasonal Cable Ferry Operator to provide 24‑hour public transportation across a cable ferry route in Norway House, a remote northern community. This full‑time, onsite position ensures safe and efficient ferry service throughout the operating season.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the cable ferry according to the established schedule and Transport Canada Marine Safety (TCMS) regulations.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections of ferry equipment and cable systems.
• Monitor weather and water conditions to make safe operational decisions.
• Maintain accurate logs and reports as required by departmental policies.
• Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, ensuring a courteous and secure experience.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work in cold, remote environments.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to marine regulations.
• Willingness to reside in or relocate to Norway House for the duration of the season.
