By-Law Enforcement Officer

About the role

The City of Vaughan is seeking a dedicated By‑Law Enforcement Officer to enforce municipal by‑laws and provincial statutes. This permanent, full‑time position involves proactive and reactive inspections, investigations, and compliance monitoring across the city.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply a broad range of City of Vaughan by‑laws and provincial statutes as a Provincial Offences Officer, Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, and Property Standards Officer.
• Conduct proactive and reactive inspections of properties, focusing on zoning, property standards, and related compliance issues.
• Gather and analyze evidence using standard investigative techniques, including interviews, surveillance, and evidence collection.
• Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, other municipalities, and provincial or federal bodies on joint inspections and investigations.
• Maintain accurate records in data management systems and officer notebooks while ensuring confidentiality.

Required profile

• Ability to interpret and apply municipal by‑laws and provincial legislation impartially.
• Strong investigative skills, including evidence handling and interview techniques.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with the public, complainants, and other agencies.
