Community Safety Program Coordinator

About the role

The Community Safety Program Coordinator provides leadership in developing and delivering community safety and prevention initiatives for Cold Lake First Nations. This role is directly responsible for implementing the Strong Paths, Safe Futures – Guns & Gangs (GnG) initiative for youth ages 12‑24, ensuring culturally appropriate outreach and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day implementation, tracking, and reporting of the Strong Paths, Safe Futures initiative in line with funding requirements.
• Plan and maintain consistent outreach, mentorship, and prevention activities for at‑risk and justice‑involved youth.
• Supervise, schedule, and support Youth Outreach & Mentorship Workers and other program staff.
• Build trusting relationships with youth, families, and Elders, incorporating Dene teachings, language, and land‑based activities.
• Coordinate case supports and referrals with internal CLFN services and external partners such as RCMP, Community Corrections, and schools.
• Document GnG‑funded activities, time, and expenditures separately for accountability while contributing to the broader Community Safety Department.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in social work, criminology, Indigenous studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3‑5 years of relevant experience in youth services, justice, or Indigenous community programming with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
• Experience working with youth and families affected by trauma, substance use, or justice involvement, and knowledge of trauma‑informed and restorative approaches.
• Understanding of Cold Lake First Nations, Dene culture, and local community relationships.
• Strong relationship‑building, organization, problem‑solving, and facilitation abilities.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence and ability to travel as required.
