Buildings and Research Infrastructure Manager

About the role

The Buildings & Research Infrastructure Manager provides professional expertise, planning, and oversight for research infrastructure, physical space development, and building operations within the Faculty of Engineering. The incumbent ensures that laboratories and research environments meet safety, compliance, functionality, and service quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee faculty‑wide planning and management of research infrastructure, laboratory development, space allocation, utilization analysis, and renovation initiatives.
• Identify infrastructure needs, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for capital planning and long‑term development.
• Manage building operations, maintenance, service delivery, and compliance with university standards.
• Lead research infrastructure and renovation projects, defining scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables while managing risks and issues.
• Provide expert advice on laboratory design, space planning, safety, regulatory, and funding agency requirements.
• Develop and analyze project budgets, cost estimates, financial forecasts, and funding requirements.
• Serve as primary liaison among researchers, service units, regulatory bodies, and funding agencies.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in collaboration with EHS, FMAS, and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Professional designation or undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Several years of relevant experience in a public‑sector or institutional environment, including facilities‑related project management and laboratory infrastructure.
• Strong problem‑solving, negotiation, and diplomatic skills with a client‑focused approach.
• Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple projects under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with project management software.
• Experience in budget preparation and financial forecasting.
