Biomedical Visualization & Communication Designer – Patient Education

About the role

The Biomedical Visualization and Communication Designer will create and enhance patient‑education materials for the cardiac program at BC Children’s Hospital. Working at the intersection of design, healthcare communication, and patient education, you will help patients and families understand complex medical information.

Key responsibilities

• Update and maintain digital patient‑education content, including the Heart Hub app (revise visuals, add new information, ensure visual consistency).
• Refresh and redesign existing patient‑education resources to improve clarity, accessibility, and visual engagement.
• Collaborate with a Clinical Nurse Specialist and interdisciplinary team to identify gaps in education resources and translate clinical insights into design opportunities.
• Design and produce new patient‑facing materials such as infographics, short animations or motion graphics, illustrated stories/comics, and print/digital educational resources.
• Apply human‑centered design methods, including rapid ideation and iterative prototyping, to create effective learning tools.

Required profile

• Experience in biomedical visualization, graphic design, or illustration, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to translate complex medical concepts into clear, engaging visual formats.
• Strong collaboration skills to work closely with clinical teams and stakeholders.
• Comfort with in‑person work at BC Children’s Hospital, Vancouver.
