Auxiliary Service Worker – Custodial Services

About the role

The Auxiliary Service Worker joins UBC Building Operations to keep the Vancouver Point Grey Campus clean, safe, and welcoming. Working on day or evening shifts, you will support a diverse university community by delivering high‑quality custodial services across offices, classrooms, labs, and common areas.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish, shampoo, disinfect and scrub floors, walls, fixtures, furniture and appliances.
• Operate light‑ and heavy‑duty hand or power‑driven cleaning equipment as required.
• Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials and ensure equipment is in good working order.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Restock soap, toilet paper, paper towels and other consumables in designated areas.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and waste, and clear sidewalks and snow when needed.
• Set up rooms for university functions, final exams and ceremonies, and report any maintenance or repair needs.

Required profile

• Reports to the Superintendent, Custodial Services, Custodial Manager or Assistant Supervisor depending on shift.
• Receives daily assignments from the Head Service Worker.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work day and evening shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power‑operated cleaning equipment.
