Assistant Director of Care – RPN

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Care (RPN) to support the Director of Care in delivering high‑quality, resident‑focused services at our retirement home. This full‑time, temporary position (6‑8 months) involves both clinical and administrative duties, with weekend coverage required.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Care with resident care plans and assessments, including falls prevention, medication administration, heat risk, and behavioral management.
• Participate in care conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Provide health education to staff and residents.
• Cover PSW shifts when needed and deliver personal care, including lift assistance.
• Administer medications and support the house physician.
• Facilitate committee meetings in the Director’s absence and handle administrative/clerical tasks.
• Respond to resident concerns, deliver customer service, and participate in emergency/fire training.

Required profile

• Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Certificate in Feeding Assistance and Food Handling.
• Leadership or supervisory experience in a senior‑care setting.
• Ability to manage challenging conversations and advocate for residents.

Required skills

• Medication administration using the EMar system.
• Point‑of‑care documentation (experience with Point Click Care is an asset).
• Use of patient lifts.
• Proficiency with computer applications: spreadsheets, email, and word processing.
