Architect I – Design Services

About the role

Merrick Canada is looking for an OAA Architect or Intern Architect to join its Ottawa office. You will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering architectural design solutions for Life Sciences, Nuclear, High‑Performance Facilities and National Security projects.

Key responsibilities

• Interact with clients to define project requirements and design intent.
• Model complex facilities and produce plans, details, and specifications.
• Perform construction site inspections and support construction administration.
• Collaborate with other design and construction professionals to deliver high‑integrity building solutions.

Required profile

• Professional architecture degree certified by the CACB, eligible for Ontario licensure.
• Minimum two (2) years of architectural experience.
• Working knowledge of current building codes and heavy commercial, institutional, and industrial construction methods.
• Understanding of all phases of architectural practice: planning, programming, schematic design, construction documents, and construction administration.
• Laboratory design knowledge and familiarity with laboratory codes is an advantage.
• Strong verbal and written communication, oral presentation skills, and ability to travel (passport required).
• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and eligibility for Government of Canada Secret Level clearance.
• Willingness to work a hybrid schedule from the Ottawa office.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
