Architect I – Design Services

About the role

Merrick Canada is looking for an OAA Architect or Intern Architect to join our Ottawa office. You will work within a multidisciplinary team delivering architectural solutions for Life Sciences, Nuclear, High‑Performance Facilities and National Security projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support architectural design solutions from concept through construction.
• Interact with clients to define project requirements and program needs.
• Model complex facilities and produce detailed plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Perform construction site inspections and coordinate with design and construction professionals.
• Deliver high‑integrity building solutions while adhering to codes and standards.

Required profile

• Professional architecture degree certified by the CACB, eligible for OAA licensure in Ontario.
• Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of current building codes and commercial/industrial construction methods.
• Understanding of all phases of architectural practice, including planning, schematic design, documentation, and construction administration.
• Laboratory design experience and familiarity with lab codes is an advantage.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to clients.
• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, ability to obtain Secret Level clearance, and a valid passport for occasional travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
