Academic Advisor – Arts Faculty

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking an Academic Advisor for the Faculty of Arts. The role supports the academic success, personal development, and retention of roughly 12,000 domestic and international students across multiple degree, diploma, and certificate programs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, deliver, evaluate, and assess academic advising services, programs, and projects for the Faculty of Arts.
• Design and implement recruiting and retention activities aligned with the University International Student Initiative.
• Assist in the development and use of information technology tools for Arts Academic Advising.
• Supervise support staff, peer advisors, and work‑study students; participate in hiring and training of additional advisors.
• Collaborate regularly with faculty, departmental advisors, student service personnel, and university members.

Required profile

• Experience in higher‑education advising or student services, preferably within a large university setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative and considerable autonomy.
• Strong decision‑making skills and capacity to contribute to policy development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with diverse student and staff populations.
