Aboriginal Education Assistant at Tyson Elementary

About the role

The Aboriginal Education Assistant supports Aboriginal students and teachers at Tyson Elementary School. Working closely with the principal, teachers, families, and community services, the role focuses on fostering cultural understanding and student success.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group assistance to Aboriginal students under teacher or principal direction.
• Serve as liaison between school, home, community, and Aboriginal organizations.
• Conduct home visits, mediate, and advocate for students and families.
• Offer guidance, encouragement, and life‑skill development to each Aboriginal student.
• Plan, facilitate, and deliver cultural activities, demonstrations, and crafts.
• Maintain accurate files and records in line with Ministry guidelines and funding requirements.
• Collect and report data for federal and provincial funding, and submit monthly reports.
• Assist with classroom management and adapt instructional materials as needed.

Required profile

• Qualifications, experience, and training as defined in the class specification for Education Assistants.
• Experience working with Aboriginal students and communities.
• Ability to conduct home visits and communicate effectively with families.
• Strong organizational skills for record‑keeping and data reporting.

• Hourly wage of $30.24 CAD.
• Part‑time schedule: 8:00 am – 2:30 pm, Tuesday‑Thursday (18 hrs/week).
