Privacy Advisor – Hybrid (Ontario Health)

About the role

The Privacy Advisor joins the Office of the General Counsel and Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer at a leading community‑based teaching hospital network. Working in a hybrid setting, the advisor provides expert guidance on Ontario and federal privacy legislation to ensure the organization’s compliance and protect personal health information.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply provincial and federal privacy laws (PHIPA, FIPPA, PIPEDA) and IPC procedural rules.
• Provide privacy advice, guidance, and communications to internal stakeholders.
• Manage Freedom of Information requests, privacy complaints, access appeals, and liaise with other departments.
• Investigate, report, and track privacy breaches; prepare the annual IPC breach report.
• Conduct compliance monitoring activities, including audits of access to personal health information.
• Develop and deliver privacy training, orientation, and awareness campaigns.
• Liaise with external stakeholders such as the IPC, other hospitals, and community partners; participate in regional privacy forums.
• Contribute to privacy policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures; review agreements and projects for privacy implications.
• Maintain a centralized filing system for privacy files and monitor key performance indicators.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree or diploma.
• Minimum two years of experience working with Ontario privacy legislation (PHIPA, FIPPA) and related compliance activities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage privacy inquiries, complaints, and breach investigations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting policies and delivering training.
