Law Clerk – Municipal Law Section

About the role

The City of Mississauga is looking for a qualified Law Clerk to support the Municipal Law Section within the Legal Services Division. In this permanent role you will draft contracts and by‑laws, conduct legal research and benchmarking, and prepare corporate reports and correspondence that directly affect city operations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and prepare contracts, amendments, statements of work and non‑disclosure agreements.
• Prepare and draft municipal by‑laws, corporate reports and related legal documents.
• Review and interpret contracts and by‑laws, update templates and maintain a precedent database.
• Coordinate registration and removal of property standards orders on title using Teraview.
• Respond to internal and external enquiries regarding contract obligations, by‑law requests and municipal law matters.
• Conduct title, corporate and records searches, analyze findings and make recommendations.
• Serve as primary contact for contract review and by‑law requests, liaising with lawyers as needed.
• Perform legal research, benchmarking and provide technical advice to senior legal staff.

Required profile

• Law Clerk Diploma or Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario Certificate (or equivalent).
• Minimum 7 years experience as a law clerk working with contracts and by‑laws.
• Strong knowledge of legal concepts, statutes and municipal law procedures.
• Excellent analytical, drafting and proofreading abilities with high attention to detail.
• Ability to manage a high volume of time‑sensitive files independently.
• Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills for interaction with clients, lawyers and the public.
• Proven organizational and problem‑solving capabilities.

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using Teraview for title and property standards management.
