About the role

The Metallurgist Process Engineer will develop, document, and implement manufacturing procedures for metal‑based products, ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and compliance with automotive standards. This role combines hands‑on testing, process optimisation, and collaboration with design and production teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, improve and document manufacturing processes.
  • Implement process control techniques and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Analyse process flows to enhance quality, reduce cost and increase throughput.
  • Collaborate with configuration control and design engineering on tooling and product design.
  • Coordinate with vendors on specifications, equipment, and material purchases.
  • Provide technical training to manufacturing staff.
  • Offer engineering and quality support on the shop floor.

Required profile

  • Metallurgical or Materials Engineering degree (or diploma) from a Canadian university/college.
  • 3‑5 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Strong attendance record and good verbal/written communication.
  • Organisational, problem‑solving and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MS Project and SolidWorks.

Required skills

  • Metallurgical testing: hardness, strain analysis, tensile, yield and elongation.
  • Use of X‑ray equipment and handheld portable XRF analyzers.
  • Microstructure analysis and steel grain‑structure interpretation.
  • Understanding of heating/cooling curves and steel composition effects.
  • Plating thickness measurement and knowledge of copper & nickel plating processes.
  • Testing of nylon materials and stainless steel (304, 316) cold‑rolled steel chemistry/mechanical properties.
  • Heat‑affected zone assessment from welding and laser welding of thin‑gauge metals.
  • Interpretation of SAE, ASTM and customer‑specific standards.
  • Basic machining skills and ability to perform manual tasks (cutting, mounting, polishing test samples, equipment maintenance).
