Marine Safety & Survival Instructors (On‑Call)

About the role

The Offshore Safety & Survival Centre at the Marine Institute is seeking qualified instructors to deliver both theoretical and practical training for marine, offshore and industrial emergency response courses. The role is on‑call and primarily based at the Foxtrap Campus, with occasional travel across Newfoundland & Labrador and the Northwest Territories/Nunavut.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver classroom instruction and hands‑on demonstrations in firefighting, marine survival and rescue craft operations.
• Supervise practical exercises, including live‑fire evolutions, open‑water drills in a Survival Tank or natural water bodies, ensuring participant safety and risk‑management compliance.
• Develop and update course material in line with governing standards and the Centre’s Integrated Management System.
• Perform administrative duties related to course delivery and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Minimum four (4) years experience in a marine or offshore environment.
• Three‑year diploma or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Valid Transport Canada Marine medical certification.
• Current Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MED) and/or Basic Survival Training (BST) certificates.
• Ability to work safely in and around aquatic environments.

Required skills

• Firefighting techniques and live‑fire training.
• Marine survival procedures.
• Rescue craft operation, including fast rescue boats.
• Open‑water and Survival Tank training.
• Risk‑management practices for practical exercises.
