General Duty Nurse – Women’s Health Mother‑Baby Unit

About the role
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services to patients in the Women’s Health Mother‑Baby Unit, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. The role involves independent nursing care, administration of prescribed treatments, leadership within the healthcare team, and coordination of patient care and discharge.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care and monitor clinical status.
- Administer prescribed medical treatments safely and accurately.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient documentation.
- Provide leadership and support to the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Coordinate patient care plans and ensure smooth discharge processes.
- Adhere to unit policies, provincial legislation and emergency protocols, including CPR.
Required profile
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
- Current CPR certification in accordance with employer policy.
- Preference for candidates with maternal/newborn experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize care for individual patients or groups.
Required skills
- CPR certification.
- Knowledge of CRNM Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
- Familiarity with the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
- Understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act scope of practice.
- Awareness of relevant provincial acts (PHIA, WHMIS, Mental Health Act, etc.).
- Principles of delegation and teamwork within a healthcare setting.
- Preferred competence in an Indigenous language or knowledge of Indigenous customs.
