Construction Superintendent – Major Projects

About the role

The Superintendent will lead the delivery of large‑scale construction projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety, quality, and workmanship standards. This role oversees both self‑performed crews and subcontractors, acting as the on‑site authority for all work activities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain site layout and develop logistics plans for work areas.
• Lead on‑site activities by enforcing strict safety policies.
• Support Project Management with Work Plans, Method Statements, and Lift Plans.
• Ensure work is performed in accordance with drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Supervise, coordinate, and monitor the workforce assigned to the scope of work.
• Maintain positive relationships with unions, addressing disputes, conflicts, and grievances.
• Develop and sustain relationships with owners, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with Aecon’s health‑and‑safety program, quality control plans, and local legislative requirements.
• Account for compliance with union agreements and perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of progressive experience on major construction projects (transit preferred).
• Past experience with concrete works and/or shaft excavation.
• 8+ years in a supervisory construction role.
• Proven track record of leading projects with excellent safety performance.
• Experience managing projects valued between $100 million and $500 billion.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable OH&S legislation.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends or night shifts.
• Successful completion of background checks.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
