Backend Software Engineer – Pricing Platform

About the role

Opendoor is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join its Pricing team. You will help build and evolve the core platform that powers real‑estate pricing decisions, working closely with data scientists, product managers, and other engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain core pricing services and APIs.
• Develop high‑performance SQL queries and data models on large PostgreSQL datasets.
• Architect and improve micro‑service integrations with Opendoor’s marketplace.
• Lead technical design reviews and enforce best practices for code quality, testing, and observability.
• Collaborate with data science to productionize pricing models and build model‑serving pipelines.
• Drive reliability, latency, and scalability improvements across pricing systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team’s technical growth.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects from design through rollout and support.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Go or Python programming.
• SQL and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Design and development of APIs in a micro‑services environment.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as scalability, consistency, and resiliency.
