System Administrator

About the role

The Grande Prairie Police Service is seeking a skilled System Administrator to join its fast‑growing IT team. This position supports a "cloud first" strategy and helps build the technology infrastructure for municipal police operations from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

• Design, install, maintain and optimise Azure data‑center, network, security, radio and business applications.
• Manage network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, VLAN, Wi‑Fi, WAN, VoIP, QoS, video surveillance and body‑camera systems.
• Administer storage area networks, SAN fabric, virtualization, application servers, databases and load balancers.
• Configure, test and support Microsoft 365 services (Entra ID, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
• Develop and enforce security policies, conduct awareness programs and coordinate penetration testing.
• Lead disaster‑recovery and business‑continuity planning, and support audit activities.
• Install and troubleshoot AFRRCS radio and RoIP systems for first‑responders and regional partners.
• Provide end‑to‑end support for business applications, including implementation, configuration and database maintenance.

Required profile

• Strong technical background with experience in cloud‑first environments and municipal or public‑safety IT.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and follow guidance from senior IT leadership.
• Proactive problem‑solver comfortable handling a wide range of infrastructure projects.
