Youth Worker

About the role

The Youth Worker will plan and deliver recreational and cultural activities for Wasauksing First Nation youth aged 13‑18. The role blends program coordination with personal mentorship, helping young people build confidence, self‑esteem and a connection to their heritage.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and run sports tournaments and recreation programs such as volleyball, basketball, badminton and floor hockey.
• Provide one‑on‑one counselling and act as an advocate for youth, helping them explore options and make positive decisions.
• Collaborate with Elders to incorporate cultural knowledge into activities and guide youth development.
• Plan, supervise and evaluate youth day camps and arts‑craft workshops.
• Develop funding proposals to support and expand youth programs.
• Participate in multidisciplinary community caregiver teams and liaise with other First Nations and service agencies.

Required profile

• Certificate or Diploma in a Social Services discipline, or a High School Diploma with at least three years of experience in a social services setting.
• Valid First Aid/CPR certification and ability to provide a current CPIC check.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Ojibway is an asset.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities; computer literacy is a plus.
• Current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are considered assets.
