Structural Design Engineer (Intermediate)

About the role

As an Intermediate Structural Design Engineer on Sense Engineering’s growing Vancouver structural team, you will lead the expansion of the practice into new‑construction projects, focusing on mass timber and hybrid systems from concept through construction. You will also support restoration and rehabilitation work, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and regional leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural design of residential, commercial and institutional new‑construction projects, emphasizing mass timber and hybrid systems.
• Develop and compare structural schemes, produce basis‑of‑design documents and perform structural analysis using tools such as Revit, ETABS, SAFE, S‑Frame or RAM.
• Conduct construction reviews, coordinate solutions with contractors and design teams, and resolve conflicts with architectural and non‑structural requirements.
• Provide structural guidance on restoration, repair and site‑investigation projects, including condition assessments and evaluation reports.
• Manage project delivery: read contracts, set budgets, prepare invoices, track scope, and maintain project data in the company’s management software.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of structural engineering experience at a consulting firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering (or higher) and P.Eng. registration with EGBC or eligibility to register in BC.
• Demonstrated design experience with mass timber (glulam, CLT) and hybrid structures, including connection detailing.
• Strong understanding of load paths, gravity and lateral load behavior, and ability to communicate concepts through sketches and details.
