Software Development Engineer in Test – Desktop

About the role

NearSource is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) focused on desktop installation experiences for enterprise‑grade applications. The role involves designing, automating, and executing tests for Windows installer workflows to ensure high‑quality releases.

Key responsibilities

• Drive end‑to‑end testing of desktop installation workflows, including install, upgrade, repair, and uninstall scenarios.
• Design and develop automated test frameworks and test cases for installer‑related functionality.
• Execute test strategies covering requirements analysis, design validation, defect tracking, and risk assessment.
• Validate installer performance across diverse Windows environments, configurations, and system states.
• Investigate, reproduce, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve defects efficiently.
• Improve testing processes through automation, tooling enhancements, and quality best practices.
• Partner with global engineering teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality product releases.

Required profile

• 1+ years of experience in software testing, QA, or SDET roles.
• Strong understanding of test design, defect lifecycle, and quality assurance methodologies.
• Hands‑on experience with test automation development.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Groovy, Shell).
• Solid understanding of Windows OS fundamentals, including file systems, registry, services, and permissions.
• Experience testing desktop applications or installer workflows.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
