Research Assistant – Circular Economy & Biodiversity

About the role

The Department of Biology at McGill University seeks a Research Assistant to support interdisciplinary case studies on circular‑economy strategies and their impacts on biodiversity in Quebec. The role combines scientific analysis, indicator development, and stakeholder collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct case‑study research evaluating wood recovery, paper recycling, agroecology and other circular strategies.
• Develop and adapt biodiversity indicators, including Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) and related ecological metrics.
• Apply analytical tools such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental modelling to quantify impacts.
• Collaborate with academic, governmental and industrial partners to integrate biodiversity considerations.
• Synthesize findings and communicate results through reports, presentations and academic publications.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in ecology, environmental science, geography, engineering or a related field.
• Strong analytical, organizational and scientific writing skills in both English and French.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in interdisciplinary or applied research related to biodiversity, circular economy or sustainability.
