Hospitalist – Inpatient Physician

About the role

The West Coast General Hospital is expanding its Community Hospital Inpatient Physician (CHIP) team and seeks qualified physicians to provide comprehensive inpatient care. Positions are available on a full‑time or part‑time basis, serving patients of all ages across a wide range of medical conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the most responsible physician (MRP) for unattached and unassigned inpatients, including rounding, discharge planning, and urgent call response.
• Coordinate service transfers, inter‑facility repatriations, and hand‑overs to community primary care practitioners.
• Provide consult services to on‑site ambulatory clinics, medical day care, and virtual outreach to rural and Indigenous health sites.
• Maintain continuous coverage from 07:00 to 22:00, 52 weeks per year, including statutory holidays.
• Respond to non‑code urgent calls and support after‑hours on‑call duties as needed.

Required profile

• Medical degree with current licensure to practice in British Columbia.
• Experience in inpatient hospital medicine or a related specialty.
• Commitment to culturally safe, trauma‑informed patient care.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NTP) certification (if applicable).
• Training or certification to provide Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) services (if applicable).
