General Duty Nurse (N2) – Medicine

About the role

The General Duty Nurse (N2) provides professional registered nursing services to patients with complex and unpredictable health needs at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Working under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services, the RN delivers independent nursing care, administers prescribed treatments, and leads coordination of patient care and discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Administer prescribed medical treatments and medications safely.
• Lead and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Facilitate patient care coordination and discharge planning.
• Maintain compliance with regional policies, standards, and legislative acts.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program.
• Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
• Current CPR certification as per employer policy.
• Recent related nursing experience is an asset.
• Active participation in professional nursing associations preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of CRNM Standards of Practice and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
• Understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act scope of practice.
• Familiarity with PHIA, WHMIS, Universal Precautions, and other relevant legislation.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Critical thinking, problem‑solving and ability to prioritize patient care.
